Share Your Story and Win a Flash Drive!
Share Your Story and Win a Flash Drive
by David Lusher
Finally there is a reason to read the blog from the random guy on campus you have never met–a free flash drive! How can I win this flash drive, one might ask? I have an answer.
A few years back I had to purchase a flash drive for school. Of course, like all of us, I washed it, lost it, and everything else short of smashing it with a hammer or running over it – though I did come close. About half way through the year the flash drive disappeared. I was photo editor of our yearbook in high school and pictures were on there: I had essays saved on there to be printed and turned in: and I had just filmed a wedding and my instructions as to what they wanted for the DVD were on there. To say the least, the days following were a bit crazy. I turned my hose upside-down. That magical little extension of my computer’s memory was gone. That was not the end of the chaos though. After making up for all that was lost I was at one of my best friend’s house – which I frequented. As I proceeded to leave he stopped me saying he had something he thinks I left there. Yes, indeed, he had it there all along. The joy mixed with sheer frustration was just about enough to make my eyes leak. Soon enough though, I was laughing about it.
Now that you have heard mine, tell us an experience you have had losing a flash drive. The best submission will win! Simple enough right? I look forward to reading your stories!
Happy Thanksgiving! And as always-you stay classy NPCC!
(All submissions received by 4:30pm December 12 will be entered and the winner will be announced on Wednesday, December 14.) Be sure to include your full name, NPCC email, and personal email so we can contact the winner.

My flash drive has been my key for getting through school. I have been a student of NPCC since the fall of 2009. I have had the same flash drive since the beginning. My story will probably be the same as a few more students though. I had class in the computer lab with Mrs. Brown. I left it after class and didn’t realize until I got home and started to do my homework. In a panic, I called the lab to see if anyone had turned it in. Phew….it was there. Luckily I had put my name in it in white-out. Life and homework saved….
that food i hate to see you do that work all over again like i did
I had bought one of the flashdrives that looked like a braclett out of the store last fall, during this time I was taking western-civ and having to make power points. Well my youngest child was asking me for something one day while I was working on homework at home. Instead of stopping what I was doing to pay attention to what it was he was really asking I just said yes. Boy was that a mistake I had told him yes he could have my flashdrive AHHHH! is what I thought the next day while tearing the house and car apart about in tears because my class was starting in an hour and still no drive which meant a 0 for my grade. My kids come in from school and there the anwser to all my problems was on my childs arm I leapt with joy for finding it and upon asking him why he had it I got; you told me I could. My mind began to back track to the night before, lesson was learned it is alright to take a minute to look up from the computer before you anwser questions that need all of your attention.
Many of my previous teachers have always spoke of backing up your files on something other than your flash drive, because you never know when that dreadful day of losing or better yet destroying your flash drive will occur. About a year ago, around the end of the semester I would experience the dreadfulness of the flash drive failure! The semester was nearing to an end with finals a few weeks away, everything was looking as though the semester was going to end without any types of problems or so I thought. As, I was preparing to leave class one day the unthinkable would occur. In a rush to get out of class, as I walked past the computer I was using I felt a snap and heard the flash drive hit the floor. The snapping sound of the drive sent an immediate panic, “I hope it didn’t break.” I thought to myself. As I reached down to pick the flash drive off the floor, my fear was reassured. The flash drive was completely broken, with all of my work for the semester. How am I ever going to make up all of this work, with two weeks before the end of the semester? “This can’t happen” I thought to myself, but in fact it did! I picked up the broken flash drive stuck them in my pocket, later that evening when I was at home I pulled the broken flash drive out to see how much damaged was caused. Staring at this flash drive I soon come to the realization that I might be able to fix it with a little ingenuity, solder, and duck tape. A few minutes later, I had something that looked nothing like a flash drive, but would it work? As I put the flash drive into the computer, “Houston we have lift off”. Yes! I could not believe that I fixed this now I wouldn’t have to spend countless hours of work just weeks before the semester! Needless to say, I have learned that you should always back up your files, now I do so religiously!
