A few shots from a recent trip to the trails.
Up near the top of Black Snake road, right on the top of the mountain, there’s a nice long trail called(I believe) Sunset Trail. Over spring break, I managed to get up there and did some trail walking with my camera. I found a nice spot that gave pretty much the perfect vantage point to look at part of the campus.
Here’s the Nursing Building from on top of the mountain.

Regina Spektor – “Samson”
Students in the Visual and Media Arts department were shown this video as an example of the kinds of visual and compositing effects that are possible – the kind of stuff that we can do right here on campus, in fact. Lovely stop-motion paper birds and music sheets mixed with actual footage of Ms. Spektor’s lovely singing and piano playing result in a fascinating video to behold.

Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation Establishes ARTMOBILE Tour as Memorial to Jeannette Rockefeller
The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation has established a memorial tour, honoring the late Jeannette Rockefeller, former First Lady of Arkansas and an ardent supporter of the arts. State locations and organizations have been selected to receive a tour of the Arkansas Arts Center’s Artmobile. One of this year’s recipients is National Park Community College in Hot Springs.
The Arkansas Arts Center’s Artmobile, a 40+ft. mobile gallery displaying original works of art will be at NPCC’s north parking lot on Mid America Blvd., across from the Fisher Campus Center, March 15-19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“The Artmobile provides a quality visual arts experience that is great for schools, colleges/ universities, festivals, special events, museums, libraries, and because it is a mobile gallery, it is a wonderful way to introduce audiences to fine art in their own communities,” said Ned Metcalf, State Services Manager at the Arts Center. The Artmobile’s exhibition is available to be viewed on the Arts Center’s website: www.arkarts.com under “Touring Programs.” Day or evening hours may be set to accommodate school, public, or community tours. Check with local sponsor(s) on the complete schedule for this tour.

TV on the Radio – “Me I”
Students in the Visual and Media Arts department were shown this video as an example of the kinds of visual and compositing effects that are possible – the kind of stuff that we can do right here on campus, in fact. Very clever use of effects, and a catchy song to boot.

Ruins in the Sleepy Valley
These photos were taken within walking distance of where I live. It is my assumption that this destruction is the result of floods during the last century.
Makes me wonder what the building was for, back when it was still intact…
Love Never Forgets
Submitted by Douglas A. Phillips
I got the note with the invitation,
I must admit I was taken back.
I took off work, went home for meditation
Before I had a stress attack.I can’t forget that week we first fell in love.
We talked for hours every night
You’re everything I just couldn’t get enough
And when we made love, it was so right. But we were young and oh so crazy
We’re probably lucky we both lived.
When we grew apart, it didn’t even faze me.
I was too busy to feel.I can’t forget our trip to California.
I can still see your smile, walking Venice Beach.
As I look back, I really adored you.
We couldn’t stop laughing; we were rolling to the beat.I know you’ve met my wife and seen our new baby
And I can tell you love him.
There’s no doubt he’s found a good lady
And I hope your love never dims. But I won’t forget our week-ends hiking.
We were searching for new waterfalls.
We’d find a special place, to hang out and be free
We were partners through it all.I guess I put our love as far away as I could,
But you’ve surely awoken it
When I read in your note,You’ll always love me
And that you will never forget.I can’t forget
I won’t forget
We’ll never forget
Love never forgetsI got the note in the wedding invitation.
