March 1st at 1PM: Life Story of Rosa Hirsch Blum, Holocaust Survivor

This information was taken from a schoolwide email from Dr. Carder.

Image of Rosa Hirsch Blum
Rosa was deported to Auschwitz from Romania. Because she was separated from the rest of her family upon arrival, she survived “selection” that sent the others directly to the gas chamber. Rosa was later shipped to Dachau and other camps until liberated by the U.S. 4th Army near Munich.

March 1 beginning at 1:00 p.m. is the confirmed day and time for Rosa Hirsch Blum’s story as a holocaust survivor to be presented on our campus. The presentation will be held in the Martin Eisele Auditorium in the Fred Dierks Nursing and Health Sciences Building. If you wish to attend and have not yet let Melba Lancaster know, please contact her as soon as possible since we have limited seating. Some area schools will join us in the Eisele Auditorium for the program.

Through the cooperative sponsorship of Garland County Library, REGARD, and the Congregation House of Israel’s Sisterhood, NPCC has the opportunity to hear the life story of Rosa Hirsch Blum.

Originally from Romania, she is one of fewer than 500,000 living Holocaust survivors and has been involved with the Dallas Holocaust Museum and Center for Education and Tolerance. She moved to Dallas in 1950, six years after entering Auschwitz-Birkenau as a 15-year-old.

Rosa Blum will be in Hot Springs from March 1-3, 2010 to tell her story to several public schools in the area. The sponsorship has graciously offered for NPCC to hear Ms. Blum on March 1, Monday afternoon in the Martin Eisele Auditorium.

It is not often that we have this kind of opportunity to hear a first-hand account of what life was like during this period in the world’s history. I encourage those of you who have classes that might benefit from hearing Ms. Blum’s story to make plans to attend.

Seating is limited to 200, so please let Melba Lancaster know if you plan to attend this important event.

I look forward to seeing you there.
